Mother’s Day Eve

Today is Mothers Day and I hope it is a great day for all you mothers with little or no cooking and certainly no cleaning or washing or ironing. Leave the cleaning, washing and ironing until tomorrow, it will wait. There is no ‘use by date’ on ironing etc.

Jean and I went to Suttons in the Rochestown Park Hotel last night instead of trying to get some place today. It was wet and windy but the hotel has 2 designated parking spaces right at the entrance to the bar. The bar and dining area are all on one level and there was plenty of circulation space. We felt that the set menu was very good value at €24.50 for 3 courses + tea or coffee. We both enjoyed our food as was evidenced by cleared plates from all courses.

The disabled toilet was clean and spacious with the requisite grab rails and the sink and mirror at the correct levels. The only complaint was that the emergency alarm cable was about 4 feet off the ground and thus of no use as it would be unreachable by a person who had fallen. I did bring it to the attention of a waiter before I left.

My star rating for Suttons is 4 ½

  1. Good on you for letting them know. I’m in the middle of a trip right now and you won’t believe how in accessible this resort is. Usually I wouldn’t even consider a place like this but my aunt is having her birthday party in the resort. Let’s just say the staff here is getting a lot of exercise tugging me around the resort.

If the management are not made aware of a problem they won’t fix it. I believe in making them aware of issues and hope that they will correct them. I usually re-visit a place to see if the work has been done and then post accordingly.

      • Good point I have notified the manager on the problem. However, i am very pessimistic on whether they would act on it as in Asia wheelchair access is not a high priority. However, I did meet with the minister of tourism and we will see if any changes in building codes will be implemented in the future. Keeping my fingers crossed.
