Brackens, Paul Street

Vincent and I went to a different venue for our Thursday Morning cuppa on Friday. I couldn’t do Thursday as I was sampling the delights of the Radisson Blu in Dublin. Brackens is a lovely coffee shop on Paul St, Cork. It is part of a very old building adjacent to Paul St Shopping Center and multi-storey car park. I had no difficulty getting my wheelchair in the door and there was enough circulation space inside. I had a cup of green tea and a scone and both were lovely. This is where the plaudits end. There appeared to be only one toilet and a person with a weight problem would have difficulty accessing it not to mention a wheelchair. I had to leave my chair outside and ‘wrestle’ myself in. Not good. I appreciate that in old buildings where space is at a premium catering for minority needs is difficult and sometimes expensive to provide initially but with approximately 17% of the population disabled it is a big segment of the market to ignore.

My Disability rating for Brackens is 1.5

  1. I know what you mean about the bathroom problem I’ve faced the same problem more than once.. Unfortunately most businesses in Europe will not accommodate for disabilities and will use the same old its an old building excuse…

Thanks for taking the time to reply and follow the blog. In defence of Brackens they didn’t make the excuses but if you saw the premises there really is no place to put a wheelchair accessible toilet. Maybe you will visit our fair city and I will show you around.

      • I understand the difficulties and am not bashing at all. I make do with I can as I suspect you do 🙂 I hope to visit your city one day, you can count on it!

        Looking forward to it
