Esso Replied to “When lip service is not enough”

Dear Declan,
Thank you for your message regarding your visit to the toilet facilities at
our Round Tower Service Station.
I am sorry to learn that you experienced problems accessing the toilet
cubicle and would like to apologise for any distress this caused you.
Unfortunately, there was a problem with the baby changing table inside the
cubicle. A faulty latch meant it had fallen open, barring your way in. As
soon as we saw your message we made arrangements to fix the baby changing
table and this has been just completed.
I am grateful to you for bringing this problem to our attention and can
assure you we will be alert to prevent similar problems occurring at any of
our service stations.
I do hope that your unfortunate experience will not deter you from visiting
our premises in future and thank you for your custom.

Yours sincerely / Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Üdvözlettel,

Katalin Haller
Customer Care Assistant

  1. Thank you for sharing your journey! I have been pondering the barriers of the disabled a bit more of late. I am an ‘able-bodied’ disabled by having a stage iv cancer diagnosis. We are encouraged, I think, to see ourselves as different, better perhaps. It is a very false divide that limits our collective voice. Anyway, I appreciate your efforts.
    warmly, marcy
