When lip service is not good enough

We headed for Dublin after lunch yesterday. More about that later. Sweltering heat in the car. So glad have we air con, it’s worth its weight in gold at the moment. A jack-knifed lorry slowed us down for a while as we neared Dublin. We had just passed through Newlands Cross when I decided to check the toilet facilities in the next garage we saw. It was an ESSO station next to Joels Restaurant. The entrance door was a bit difficult to open but I managed. I headed towards the toilets and this is where things went down hill. The door opened in but couldn’t open fully because the baby-changing table was open and despite all my efforts it refused to lock back into the closed position. I thought I would reverse into the loo but was unsuccessful and when I tried to force the issue my chair toppled over backwards and I finished on the floor. I did not notice any alarm cable and I eventually righted myself. The only positive for me was that the floor was DRY. In my opinion it would be (almost) impossible for a wheelchair user without some degree of mobility or assistance to use that toilet. I eventually parked my chair outside in the corridor.

I did register my complaint with the young lady serving in the shop section. and I hope that an incident like this will never happen again.
