Difficult to access hospital ward

Who would have thought that a ground floor hospital ward would be difficult to access in this day and age? I certainly did not think that such a problem could exist but it did.

Jean’s mum has been in St Finbarr’s Hospital for a couple of weeks. She needs and deserves visits. Elaine has been tremendous throughout this episode visiting her most days when Jean was unable to travel.

Jean is improving rapidly since her total knee replacement. It is hard to believe that it is only two weeks ago today she had the operation. In any event Jean and I went to visit Jo last Sunday and were amazed to find that St Clare’s ward was not readily accessible.

It is fine once you get into the building but getting in was problematic. There is car parking available adjacent to the front door but the entrance door is at a much lower level to the car park. The ramp is too steep making the descent difficult and making the ascent almost impossible. There are no designated parking spaces available. The one and only designated space is a good distance away in a different parking area. We really had great ‘fun’ with a mobility impaired person and a wheelchair user trying to access the ward at the same time.

I have written to the authorities on the matter (they probably do not follow my blog) and will check back on the situation at some time in the future. Don’t hold your breath for the problem to be addressed but at least the appropriate authorities are aware of it.
