Class Trip: Fota Gardens & Fota Island Hotel

For those of you who don’t know, I work with children with special needs! Yesterday (tuesday) we went on a class trip! We had two wheelchairs & 3 children with different levels of mobility!

Everyone was excited to be heading off in the bus! Our first stop was Go Safari play centre just before carrigtwohill! The staff were very helpful & the children had a great time! There was something for them all to enjoy!

Our next stop was Fota Gardens.  On our way from the car park to the gardens one of the first signs seen was for wheelchair toilets & also for wheelchair access to Fota House! We started out walk, the paths were a bit gravelly, & at times a bit hilly so it made it awkward for the girls pushing the chairs, but they managed! It maybe difficult for anyone wheeling themselves in a chair! There are plenty of benches to stop off & have a rest which we needed to do as one of our kids was not too happy to be walking around at all at all! For this reason we didn’t get too far around the gardens or into the house! But what we did see was lovely, & we will definitly be paying another visit but will bring an extra buggy with us the next time & a picnic 🙂

After our Little trip around the Gardens, we headed off into Fota Island Hotel for our lunch! Fancy yes but our kids deserve the best (and sure so do we) 🙂 As soon as we were off the bus someone was over asking if we needed any help! We were grand but it was a lovely gesture! Off we went into the hotel, the entrance & the lobby were all wheelchair accessible!  There was also wheelchair accessible toilets & lifts to other floors! We were met in the bar by a lovely member of staff in the amber lounge, who got a table all set up for us in the restaurant to give us more room! The staff couldn’t have been nicer, giving the kids stuff to colour with! The food was lovely too an added bonus!

All in all a highly enjoyable & accessible day 🙂
